Mihaela and Cristian Marinescu – From a dream in the kitchen to a recognized brand
In 2020, amidst a difficult period in my life, an idea was born that would change everything. Driven by the desire to transform pain into something beautiful, we started restoring old furniture right in our own kitchen. The first piece, a turquoise chest of drawers with gold details and wallpaper inside the drawers, remains vivid in our memory. For nearly two weeks, our kitchen was transformed into a workshop, and fast-food meals became routine.
What started as a personal passion quickly turned into an increasingly sought-after service. High demand led us to move into a larger space – our first workshop – the place where the stories of furniture pieces continued to come to life.
Today, after hundreds of large successful projects, we are more than a team: we are a family of dedicated artists and craftspeople. We have a 72-year-old master carpenter, an old-school upholsterer, an experienced painter, and a professional finisher by our side. Together, in every project, we bring experience, precision, and a deep respect for detail.
Recognition was not long in coming. Mihaela was awarded at the Women in Power Gala in Craiova, in April 2024, receiving the Distinction of Excellence in Career for her contribution to community development. Media appearances and customer feedback confirmed what we knew from the beginning: that work done with soul and attention to detail creates real value.
Today, Colorat by Mihaela Marinescu means premium services for furniture restoration, painting, upholstery, and customization. Each piece is treated as a work of art, and each client receives not just a product, but a unique experience. For us, excellence is not a goal, but the minimum standard we aim to provide.

1. Do you also work at the client's home?
All pieces are crafted in our workshop, where we have all the necessary equipment. We can come to your home only for customers in Craiova and only for minor interventions (touch-ups or assembly)
2. If we are from a city other than Craiova, how can we collaborate?
We have clients from all over the country and the process is simple:
- you send us photos and details about your pieces,
- we offer you consultation and a price estimate,
- we organize transport through private carriers from the transport exchange (at an additional cost),
- we refurbish the pieces in the workshop,
- we send them back through the same transport network (at an additional cost).
If you are from Craiova, we collaborate with local carriers who can pick up the furniture directly from your home, for a fee.
3. How does shipping work?
In Craiova – parts can be picked up and delivered by partner carriers, for a fee.
In the rest of the country – we use private carriers from the transport exchange, for a fee.
Alternatively – you can personally bring and pick up the parts, free of charge.
4. Do you provide an invoice?
Yes. All works are accompanied by:
- tax invoice
- service contract,
- handover protocol,
- final acceptance protocol upon completion of the work.
5. How do I pay?
Payment is made in two stages:
- 50% in advance – when the parts arrive at our workshop,
- 50% balance – upon completion of the work, before delivery.
6. How long does a reconditioning take?
The duration depends on the complexity of the piece and the desired level of customization. Generally, a work is completed within 2 to 5 weeks. We will inform you of the exact timeframe before we begin.
7. How much does a reconditioning cost?
The price differs depending on:
- the type of piece (table, commode, display cabinet, chairs, etc.),
- the condition of the furniture,
- the chosen finishes and customizations.
We offer free evaluations based on photos and send you a detailed quote before work begins.
8. Is it worth refurbishing old furniture?
Yes, absolutely!
- Old furniture is often made of solid wood, much more durable than modern materials.
- By refurbishing, you get a unique, personalized piece with aesthetic and emotional value.
- The costs are more advantageous than purchasing new premium furniture.
9. If I change my mind and want to return the product, is that possible?
Being a product made to order and customized, unfortunately, it cannot be returned.
